About Us

Our founders used the stars to navigate these waters. We must look to them again to navigate towards a brighter and ambitious future.

We are the official space organization of the Maldives, founded on the ethos of international collaboration, reshaping our national identity and positioning the Maldives as a leader in the global space community - driven by our historically rooted desire to explore.

Objectives

Building Climate Resilience
Protecting Our Maritime Domain
Empowering and Inspiring Local Maldivians
Creating a Space Economy
Fostering a Scientific and Research Culture

Maldives is one of the most vulnerable nations to changes in climate, weather, sea level and ecosystems. Using Earth Observation comprised of remote sensing and in-situ data, we can build better models to monitor the risks we face. These models then can help the government and commercial entities make informed decisions that will protect our people, infrastructure and assets

Our territory is 99% ocean and pose an immense challenge for the government to monitor and protect the maritime domain. Using satellites and AI we aim to build monitoring, awareness and response capabilities that can help combat illegal fishing, shipping and trafficking, while assisting the local fishing and shipping industry to grow.

In addition to the applications space offers to solve our problems, it is also a source of inspiration to our local population. Through educational and outreach initiatives alongside business acceleration programs, we aim to help the local population better understand how to be a part of a future space economy and benefit from it.

Being an equatorial nation we have many strategic advantages that can help build a strong space economy. We aim to empower and enable the creation of local startups based around these strategic advantages and generally available data.

The unique geography of Maldives gives us the opportunity to gather highly valuable data about our oceans. However, traditionally this has not translated into strong academic and research collaborations. Through partnerships with recognized institutes, MSRO aims to build a strong research and scientific culture around astronomy, microgravity and earth observation within the Maldives.
